Murray Smit Golf is committed to growing junior golf in the Western Cape and we pride ourselves on helping each player develop his or her golfing ability in a fun and exciting environment.

We can accommodate juniors as young as three years old with our SNAG (Start New At Golf) equipment, which is easier and safer to use, before they move onto using proper clubs.

Murray has a passion for helping elite juniors achieve their goals, whether that is representing their province, country or to attend a college in the USA. Murray takes great pride in having helped a number of players win both regional and nationally ranked tournaments over the last few years.

Murray Smit Golf

Murray Smit Golf is a world-class golf academy situated at the prestigious De Zalze Golf Club. We offer a phenomenal golfing experience for players of all abilities, utilizing some of the most advanced technology available to help each and every golfer reach their full potential.

Murray Smit – Head Teaching Professional

Murray is a member of the PGA of South Africa and has assisted a wide variety of players, from absolute beginners to Sunshine Tour Professionals.

He has a wealth of experience coaching on both Trackman and Flightscope and is a Trackman level 2 certified instructor. He is also certified by the Titleist Performance Institute (level 2 - Golf and Junior) and has obtained level 1 certifications with Boditrak and Swing Catalyst. Murray enjoys assisting golfers of all abilities to reach their golfing goals.

JP Viviers – Assistant Teaching Professional

JP originates from Kroonstad in the Free State, which is where he learned to play golf. He has a very strong playing background, having represented the Free State Golf Union at both U19 and U23 levels, before becoming a fully qualified PGA of South Africa member in 2015. JP still plays at a high standard, having won three regional Pro – Ams since 2018 at De Zalze, Westlake and Bellville.

JP is extremely passionate about coaching and intends to grow the game by introducing juniors and adults to the basics, through fun and simple instruction. He enjoys interacting with the members and guests at De Zalze and looks forward to helping each golfer to become the best that they can be.

Technology and Facilities

Murray Smit Golf utilizes premium technology and training aids to help each golfer become the best that they can be. We have both a Trackman and Flightscope launch monitor, which allows us to assess precisely how the ball is flying, how the club is moving and therefore how best to optimize each individual’s swing.

The driving range and chipping/putting greens at De Zalze Golf Club are magnificent; they offer a wonderful area for each golfer to hone their skills with the help of our coaches.

The indoor performance studio is a fantastic place to have lessons when the weather isn’t suitable for coaching outdoors, we are able to work on technique, distance gapping and wedge play on the Trackman Launch monitor.
